Solvang and Blueberries

We did a lot of things in June! Nelson and I began the month with a wonderful, quiet, peaceful weekend away. We drove toward Solvang, where we had never visited before. It was a quaint town and we enjoyed walking around. One visit was enough to say we've been there

On the way to Solvang we passed a blueberry farm where you can pick your own blueberries. We had never seen plants before, in fact I thought they grew in bogs for some reason, like cranberries. They really grow on bushes.
Blueberries are high in anti-oxidants and very good for you. We couldn't resist checking it out and then picking our own little bucket of berries. Nelson thinks they're a great snack. We froze them and he grabs a handful when he gets the munchies.
The last great find of the weekend were the juiciest, fresh picked oranges we've had in a long time. Not far from Six Flags are miles and miles of fruit trees and all kinds of crops growing. We bought a box of juicy oranges and two cocadas- coconut cookies. Believe it or not, the cocadas were the best we've ever had in our lives.
Oh, we also enjoyed a calm, leisurely walk on the Ventura Pier. We were refreshed and ready to face the world again when we returned.

  1. I love Solvang but one trip does kind of take care of it! The blueberries and oranges sound yummy.
